Youth Month Launch 2023: The Year of Youth, Trending for a Sustainable Future!
The Half Way Tree Transportation Centre was buzzing with energy and enthusiasm as we arrived for the launch of Youth Month 2023. The sheer excitement in the air was palpable, as the youths in attendance filled the space with their infectious enthusiasm. It was an extraordinary gathering of young people from every corner of Jamaica, coming together to celebrate under the banner of "The Year of Youth, Trending for a Sustainable Future." This theme reminds us of the critical importance of youth development and the immense potential that lies within our young generation.

Minister of Education and Youth, Fayval Williams, shared a compelling vision at the event, one that resonates deeply with the heart of our nation. She stressed that education forms the very backbone of any prosperous society. In line with this vision, the government has increased funding for education, ensuring that more young Jamaicans have access to quality schooling. Education is the gateway to a brighter future for our youth, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to lead the way in creating a better Jamaica.
Uniting for a Brighter Future
The launch of Youth Month 2023 was graced by the presence of various youth-led organizations and partners, each contributing their part to the cause. The National Youth Council of Jamaica, the Youth Advisory Council, College of Agriculture, Science & Education (CASE), and the National Planning Family Board were among the organizations in attendance. They shared valuable information about crucial aspects of youth development, including sexual and reproductive health, among many other topics. Additionally, the sight of young people who had participated in the UNDP Ready Set Great Youth Conference highlighted their passion for getting involved and their desire for a safe space to engage, learn, and have fun.
Art and Music: Nurturing Creative Spirits
The youthful energy was contagious, especially when various "schoolaz" took the stage to showcase their impressive dancing skills. This demonstration underscored the pivotal role that art and music play in youth development. These creative outlets allow young people to express themselves, build self-confidence, and acquire essential life skills. Art and music provide a platform for self-discovery and personal growth, contributing to the overall development of our youth.
ASHE Company: A Grand Finale
The grand finale of the evening was a captivating performance by the ASHE Company. Their dancing and musical talents had the students engaged and dancing up a storm, serving as a fitting conclusion to the launch of Youth Month 2023. The audience was left in awe, feeling inspired and ready to embark on the month ahead with newfound energy and determination.
