8 Positive Tips for 2018 & Beyond

New Year’s Resolutions; we all make them but how often do we keep them? At the end of each year many persons do a self-examination and set goals for the upcoming year. Some set goals to lose weight, to get that dream job, to live get better grades in school and the list goes on. New Year’s Resolutions can be great but how valuable are they if all we do is make them?  It is important that when making these resolution we be realistic, “small goals” are still goals the important thing is that we keep them. It is also important that New Year’s Resolutions be goals that carry long term benefits, while short term goals are also important it is better to make long term goals that you can take small steps to achieve. For 2018, The Positive Organization is encouraging young people to not just make resolutions but develop habits or practices that enable you to LIVE, THINK & ACT POSITIVE! Here are 8 Positive Tips for 2018 & beyond:

Positive Tip 1:  CULTIVATE AND LIVE IN A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT

To be able to stay positive it is essential to have influences in your life that support you and lift you up instead of dragging you down.

Positive Tip 2:  BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE

Some communities have a culture that doesn't have a positive impact on the lives of young people. As a young person it's not mandatory for you to adopt that culture, BE THE CHANGE so other young persons can adopt your behavior. Let them see the light through you.

Positive Tip 3: ADOPT A "SENIOR FRIEND"

There is often a gap between the old and the young as we have different perspectives on just about everything. However, having a senior friend can have its pros, you will be able to gain knowledge that will be valuable to your personal and professional development and you can also share your knowledge. Youths and seniors interacting with harmony throughout the community aids with national development.

Positive Tip 4: BE A MENTOR

Do you know a child in your community who doesn’t seem to be on the right path? You can help that child build their self-confidence, avoid bad behaviors, and improve in school. Be the change you want to see in your community and the others will follow your example. A small investment of your time can change one child’s life. 

 

 

 

Positive Tip 5: DEVELOP AN AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM IN YOUR COMMUNITY

Children are often seen after school idling at bus stations and in communities. Assisting with the development of an afterschool program in your community can lessen this reality. This would assist with homework and integration in a positive light and they will truly see the importance of learning and how it can positively impact their lives

Youth Clubs are infamous for engaging young adults in positive activities and providing them with an opportunity to surround themselves with people who may have the same interests and issues. Being part of a group can help young people develop important personal and interpersonal skills

Positive Tip 7: IDENTIFY KEY ISSUES AND CREATE EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS.

With so many social ills both nationally and internationally it is important that as young person’s we do not only identify issues but also create solutions. Create feasible solutions and always remember that one issue may have several solutions. Remember, it won't be easy so beat up yourself if the first solutions does not work.

Positive Tip 8: BE IN THE KNOW

As young persons it is important that you be in the know. Information is just a click away. Keep a breast with current issues locally and internationally, be aware of your rights, the legislations and policies of your country. There is no use in being a youth leader who isn’t informed as you will be leading with a blindfold. Knowledge is power, so aim to be an empowered youth.

Let 2018 be your year where courage takes precedence over fear. Be a beast for success & start to continue to LIVE, THINK and ACT POSIVITE!
