Never Give Up! Neville Charlton

It’s funny how at times we come across obstacles and various problems in our life and we say to our self, “I can’t,” well it doesn’t matter how hard the challenge, how difficult the situation, there is always a way, always a solution to the problem. Let’s explore the dimension of Greatness in this world, and believe that Greatness can be won by us if we are fully committed to the task, knowing that it can be accomplished!

When we face difficult situations and difficult choices let’s not think of our self, let’s think of those who don't have a choice, the homeless, poor and those in need. They don’t have a choice between Adidas or Nike, Clarks or sneakers, brand name or fake. Sometimes it’s when we think of others in need, which helps us realize, it’s not so hard after all to make those difficult decisions we may face.

We as a people need to look at that mountain, whatever problem it is we face, whatever burden may be upon us, and say to ourselves it can be done. There will be times when we try and fail, it may seems like we just can’t get over that barrier after countless attempts, but it’s only through these failures that true success will be bred.

Great Leaders of today Modern world and also past leaders didn’t accomplish or reach where they are by saying it can’t be done. It’s there failures and struggles that led to their success.

Martin Luther King, Jr. 1929 – 1968 was one of these great leaders. He struggled and fought for freedom and equality between blacks and whites. He had a dream, a dream that now lives on in various societies nationwide. Dreams that are now a reality, such as and I quote “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal." Although he was assassinated his legacy still lives on, his legacy which was to secure progress on civil rights in the United States, he accomplished this dream and it has enabled various persons to reach their full potential. When he was criticized and victimized he didn’t throw in the towel, he had set his dreams and he worked towards them. There may be times when you feel as if you have taken a million steps towards your dreams, and acted on your plans, only to find yourself in the same place that you began from. At times like this, you must not give up. Let’s now use him as a role models, set your dreams as he did, and worked towards these dreams. We may feel like we want to give up or we may never reach our dreams, but it takes  one step at a time, for its these little steps that will eventually lead us to our dreams.

Mohandas Gandhi 1869-1948 was another great leader who went through harsh struggles and difficult decisions. He was a man dedicated to using non-violent methods of protest to show the world that the people of India should be heard. He promoted nonviolence and civil disobedience as the most appropriate methods for obtaining political and social goals. Although some of his movements were a failure and although he too was victimized, he didn’t give up, he had set his goals which he wanted to accomplish for himself and also for the people of India. He used his body and mind to help accomplish these task, he fast “went without food” for days, he had trained his mind and body to withstand without food, because he wanted to achieved his goal. There will be times went we have to make harsh decisions also to accomplish our goals, and also endure various punishment, but let’s say to ourselves, it will all be worth it in the end.

There are also other prominent leaders and celebrities that had to struggle to reach where they are today.  Our Jamaican Heroes had to struggle also; they didn’t just struggle for themselves, but for us Jamaicans. They endure pain and torture; some were even killed for trying to accomplish their dreams.

As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, said “Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” We should therefore tell our self, failure is not an option, and if we do fail, don’t give up, as it is when we decide to give up that the solution to the problem become known , so Don’t be discouraged. It’s often the last key in the bunch that opens the lock.
